At present, the municipality has a total population of 109,587 based on the 2020 census of PSA. This is equivalent to 12.06% share of the total population of the Province of Oriental Mindoro. It has 70 diverse barangays, of which 6 are classified as urban. Among the 64 rural barangays, 5 are inhabited purely by Indigenous Peoples, 11 are coastal, 5 are lakeside and the rest are low-lying and upland barangays.
